I’m so thrilled to be posting on the Youth Health Service Corps’ new blog! As part of the initiative to spread awareness about health and community gardening, the Community Health Center Association of Connecticut’s AmeriCorps Community HealthCorps members are contributing to YHSC’s Semester of Service. As such, we are hoping to construct a community composting site in downtown Waterbury. We are also going to be working with YHSC members to educate them on composting practices, food origin, and healthy eating/cooking habits. Please join us in this movement as we look forward to a healthier community, public, and planet!

Welcome to the Greater Waterbury Youth Health Service Corps Semester of Service blog!
The Youth Health Service Corps is an award-winning service learning program that was created by the CT AHEC program in 2004. The YHSC in Waterbury works with all three public high schools, the technical high school and a K-8 school. We also work with a high school in Danbury.
The YHSC recruits students who show an interest in health care careers. These students learn about different health fields while participating in service-learning opportunities throughout Waterbury.
The YHSC is run by 5 AmeriCorps members in each of the schools.
This blog will be maintained by the AmeriCorps members and will frequently be updated by the student members of the YHSC.
